Bonding - More than materials | Herrmann Ultraschall

THE GENERATOR This part converts the supply voltage of a standard household socket, which in Europe is 50 Hz, into high-frequency voltage and delivers it to the converter. The stack is made up of the converter, the amplitude transformer (also called the “booster”), and the sonotrode. The entire stack expands and contracts in the required ultrasonic frequency. THE CONVERTER This includes the piezo ceramics package, an elementary component of the ultrasonic transducer. It converts the voltage into mechanical movement, which is transferred to the booster. THE AMPLITUDE TRANSFORMER Is also called a booster and changes the amplitude of the converter. The booster transfers this amplitude movement to the sonotrode. THE SONOTRODE The actual weld tool. It is here that the ultrasonic energy meets the component and/or material to be joined. With an even vibration behavior, the sonotrode introduces the mechanical vibrations gently into the component in order to weld it. STEP BY STEP THE COMPONENTS AT A GLANCE OTHER COMPONENTS THE PASSIVE COM- PONENTS INCLUDE THE FIXTURE AND THE ANVIL. THE FIXTURE IS FOR POSITIONING THE PARTS TO BE WELDED IN PLACE. IT IS THE COUNTER- PART TO THE SONOTRODE AND THE APPLIED WELDING FORCE. THE ANVIL ENSURES CONSISTENTLY STRONG JOINT QUALITIES WHEN SEALING FILMS. THE WELDING MACHINE The sonotrode and the fixture with the end product are clear to see. In this example, a plastic toy. 55 54
